Overview

Fruit smoothies have been a popular part of the McCafe franchise, that we see in europe, and now they have been adapted and sold to us. Available in 2 flavours, Strawberry & Banana or Mango & Pineapple, they are a nice refreshing and summery edition to the McDonald’s menu. Or at least, they appear to be…

These are described as Fruit purees and juices, blended with low fat yoghurt and ice – A pretty accurate description, I’ve seen them being made and that is what goes into them. When I first tried each of the flavours, I was pleased, it was flavoursome and refreshing and it actually tasted like real fruit. HOWEVER on my second purchase of a Strawberry & Banana smoothie, which I prefer, I was sorely disappointed.

What appeared to be a fruity and yoghurty drink no longer tasted that way, the novelty

had worn off and I could see what this really was – about 85% water. after drinking any of these more than once all I could taste was water, and after watching it being made I realised that ice is by far the main ingredient of these smoothies. This isn’t to say that they taste bad eventually, but they definitely don’t taste as good. For £2 I would expect a bigger and much more flavoursome drink.

I suggest to anyone who has only had this once, try it again and see if you aren’t disappointed the second time around. But maybe you will disagree… Remember to leave your thoughts and comments, or start a thread on the Forum! And Vote in our poll!

Closer Look: Chicken McBites

Price: £1.49 Contains: 1 portion of Chicken McBites Calories: 180 Kcal Availability: Ongoing       Chicken McBites are a popular menu item from McDonald’s USA, that we have finally been graced with here in the UK. These Chicken McBites are essentially just popcorn chicken, they have the same texture and feel. McDonald’s describe them as small bites of chicken in a crispy pepper coating. The pepper definitely comes through in these, giving them a bit of an extra kick that KFC’s popcorn chicken is lacking. For £1.49 this is a nice addition to the McDonald’s menu, a great little snack on the move or just a little extra with your meal. In terms of portion size, I would say that Read More...

Overall they are essentially the same as a McFlurry.  Small-ish pots of ice cream, mixed with some kind of sauce and a little crunchy something in there too! Closer Look: Mozzarella Dippers

Price: £1.59 Contains: 3 Mozzarella Dippers Calories: 280 Kcal Availability: Until end October 2012 Mozzarella Dippers, are in my opinion the best side that McDonald’s ever rotate on and off the Menu. Every year, I look forward to their return and I have been rewarded again! In a portion, you receive just 3 of these little cheesey delights. I have often said I would be more than willing to pay £2 for 4, but McDonald’s don’t offer this.  Essentially, Mozzarella dippers, are long pieces of mozzarella covered and fried in bread crumbs. It sounds simple enough, However don’t let this fool you. When fresh the Mozzarella is hot, stretchy and very tasty. But, to be honest, its pretty tasty even when its not fresh. These Read More...
