McDonald’s continues the four week ‘Great Tastes of the World’ promotion with ‘The Chilli Cheese & Mexican’ burger.

Now you may be asking yourself what happened to ‘The Australian BBQ Supreme’ review?  It is a tale of sorrow and woe – we went to the local drive thru to get this and were told it had sold out and all that was available was the previous promotional burger.  This was 48 hours before it was due to end so I stormed off empty handed vowing to have it Tuesday night.  However after the Ruby Tuesday experience I could not face another burger and alas we will never get the review…

So we set off to the drive thru (which is undergoing renovation) today in search of the new Chilli & Cheese Mexican.  This time it is day 1 of the promotion so there would be plenty of these babies available…surely!?

Arrived to find a massive crane and to cut a long story short the whole place was closed.  So manically driving off we headed to the dreaded ‘Lower High street’ in search of the ‘magnificent and mouth-watering Mexican feast’.

Enough of this… let’s get to the burger.

Well for a start I was told it would be a couple of minutes and the guy would bring it over (nice touch) but I was happy to wait at the counter.  The good news again is that these burgers are not pre-made so you know they are making it up fresh as it took approximately 3-5 minutes.

My initial bite didn’t really make me think of anything but I did notice that the sour cream sauce was almost like a foam and was surprisingly pleasant.  The next flavour I noticed was a very nice, but too faint Mexican bean taste .  So far so good…

The 100% beef patty was the same one used for the Spanish Grande and I assume for the Australian BBQ.  The burger was way too big for the cheese & paprika focaccia and the actual bun didn’t really taste of anything (opposed to the strong paprika taste of the Grande).  The bun had a spongy texture to it and held the ingredients well together.  I did notice what looked like grease in the top of the box and you can see this in the photos.  I wouldn’t say it put me off but I did comment on it at the time.

The cheese was melted on this burger and I could pick out its distinct flavour which brought everything together well.  I don’t eat fresh tomato and this was removed so cannot comment but the lettuce this time was better and again I could actually taste it.

Overall the burger has a very mild, subtle flavour to it with that nice hint of Mexican bean but I’d almost like to see something extra.  It would be nice if McDonald’s really went for it and added something to make it more spicy – maybe some jalapenos?   But I assume this doesn’t appeal to their target market and are more than happy for Burger King to have that market share.

Again this is not normally something I would order but if the mood takes your fancy and you want something different to the standard fare at McDonald’s then this burger may be worth a try.  But hurry… this Mexican is only around for a limited time.

Without bacon: 835Kcal Availability: until end October 2012 It’s big, It’s tasty, It’s back. That’s right, it is that time of year again, where the McDonald’s promotional burger is an all time classic. The McDonald’s Big Tasty… But What is it Like? When I ordered this burger the first thing to take my attention (after the high price), was the sheer size of this menu item, about double the size of a normal cheeseburger, I was pretty pleased with this after a patient 4 minute wait at the counter. McDonald’s Cheese and Bacon Striker Review

Price: £5.49 (medium meal) Contains: 1 cheese and bacon striker burger, 1 fries and a drink Calories: 815 Availability: Until july 2012   So here it is, the Cheese and Bacon Striker , the star of McDonald’s own Euro 2012 campaign, but will it live up to our heavy expectations Lets start off with the most important factor, taste. This burger, is pretty damn tasty, we have some new sesame topped bread, a “100%” beef patty, emmental cheese, bacon, lettuce and a new Cheese sauce. I will begin by saying this, we may never know how much beef is in the 100% beef patty, but does it really matter, in this burger in particular, the larger beef patty, Read More...

Sweet Chilli Chicken Sandwich Review

Price: £3.49 (medium meal) Contains: 1 Sweet Chilli Chicken Sandwich (or wrap), medium fries, medium drink Calories: 560 Kcal (sandwich) Availability: Always Available, Deli of the day on Thursday and Saturday. The “Crispy” Sweet chilli chicken sandwich is an unusual yet impressive item from the prestigious McDonald’s menu, scoring a high 4.5. Taste wise it is pretty good, a chicken patty, cucumber, lettuce, mayo and sweet chilli sauce. It is not an outstanding culinary masterpiece, but it is quite nice, the chilli sauce adds an extra little kick and the chicken is fairly crispy and different to the chicken in other burgers which is a welcome change, this same combination is also available in wrap form, which is Read More...
